This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow, both ourselves and our business.National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer - Grid Modernization Planning and Engineering in Massachusetts. - This role can be based in Worcester, Brockton, or Malden, MA.Job PurposeThe Grid Modernization Planning Engineer is responsible for directly scoping and supporting execution of the Company's implementation plans related to modernization of the design and operation of the Company's electric distribution system. - The Grid Modernization Engineer role will support multi-disciplinary teams responsible for all phases of implementation including technology review and selection; defining project budget, scope and timeline; project management; internal and external reporting and tracking; and stakeholder engagement. - Individual will also support efforts to research and develop plans for additional modernization opportunities including investigation and assessment of new tools and technologies relevant to the modernization of the electric distribution system.Key AccountabilitiesResponsible for the engineering and scoping of the Grid Modernization investments including Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration (FLISR), Volt Var Optimization (VVO), Feeder Monitor, Active Resource Integration (ARI), etcDevelop project approval documentation with need statement, scope, description of technical solution, alternatives considered, risks and mitigations, budget and timelineResponsible for planning, delivery, management and governance of Grid Modernizations and ensuring adherence to the highest standards health, safety, environmental, security and qualitySupport multi-disciplinary teams from distribution engineering, substation engineering, protection engineering telecommunications engineering, distribution standards, system operations, field operations, IT, regulatory, legal, community relations, corporate strategy to ensure effective and efficient implementation of grid modernization programsDevelop expertise in grid modernization technologies such as distribution automation, DSCADA, distributed generation interconnection, energy storage, microgrids, and distribution management systemsParticipate in review and assessment of technology options related to grid modernization, including working with internal teams to execute competitive procurement processesGain knowledge of the Company's strengths, weaknesses and opportunities in order to support cross-functional efforts to develop and refine grid modernization strategic plansSupport internal and external tracking and reporting requirements associated with grid modernization programs, including reporting of metrics related to the achievement of project benefitsInvestigate new technologies and tools in the industry and assess the relevance of and benefit to the Company's grid modernization effortsSupervisory/Interpersonal- Experience RequiredAble to motivate, counsel, coach, and develop direct reports and others.Experience establishing clearly defined goals and standards of employee performance.Ideal candidate is customer driven; displays initiative as a change agent with a can-do attitude; accepts responsibility and holds others accountable; participates in and facilitates team effectiveness; assumes the role of team leadQualificationsBachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology. An MS in Engineering preferred.10+ years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry. - Supervisory experience preferred.Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as load flow, stability voltage regulation, power factor, losses etc.Analytical skills including experience using qualitative tools in strategic development.Business development aptitude with strong presentation skillsFamiliarity with grid modernization technologies -Ability to make sound decisions to support strategic objectives Familiar with the following programs/software: CymeDist, Aspen, ArcGIS, PI Historian, EMS SCADA, Python, ExcelMore InformationSalary
$124,000 - $150,000 a year
