services including temporary and permanent housing, food
assistance, counseling and therapy, legal services, and youth
programs.With Housing Families' continued growth, we now offer
services in Malden, Everett, Revere, Chelsea, and Medford, where,
since our inception in 1986, we've strengthened housing security
for over 2,400 families and individuals.We are looking for those

ResponsibilitiesPurposeReporting to the Chief Executive Officer,
the Director of Development (DOD) serves as a key leadership team
member and an active participant in strategic planning for the
organization overall and will be responsible for the development
and implementation of all fundraising strategies. The Director of
Development will partner with the CEO and the Board to help forge
new and sustain existing relationships to build Housing Families'
visibility, impact, and financial resources. Currently, Housing
Families has an annual operating budget of over $9M. Historically,
91% of our revenue comes from government grants and contracts, 5%
from private foundations, 3% from individual donors, and 1% from
corporate donors. We are hoping to diversify our revenue to
decrease reliance on government sources and grow the individual and
corporate portions of revenue in FY23 (7/1/2022 - 6/30/2023), with
a Development Goal of just over $1M.As part of the Director's first
task, they will design and implement a comprehensive fundraising
and engagement plan, aligned with industry best practices and
inclusive of yearly goals and growth metrics, to engage, solicit,
and steward philanthropic support from a range of donors. The DOD
will also be charged with expanding and diversifying the
organization's donor base/pipeline, with a particular focus on
individuals and corporations.In addition, as part of the
comprehensive fundraising and engagement plan, the DOD will examine
anticipated fundraising growth and make strategic recommendations
regarding the future team staffing structure.
The DOD will bring an entrepreneurial spirit and autonomous yet
collaborative working style. An understanding of the current
challenges and opportunities in the homelessness and housing
sectors and alignment withHousing Families' mission are important.
The Director of Development must use the Principles of
Community-Centric Fundraising (CCF) and ethical storytelling in all
aspects of job description to root our fundraising in racial and
economic justice.Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic solicitations and management of donor
relationships with the organization's most committed
supporters
- Oversee the development of a comprehensive annual fundraising
plan that identifies specific fundraising goals, timelines, and
targets for appeals, events, and campaigns
- Manage the creation of strategies to cultivate, solicit,
retain, and increase the number of existing donors who regularly
make gifts, especially at major-donor levels
- Identify and create strategies to expand, recruit, retain, and
quantifiably grow the base of donors
- Participate actively in decisions made to further the strategic
goals set forth by the organization, specifically considering
development's role in integrated advocacy
- Lead the development staff as a unified and coordinated team
focused on increasing revenue across various sources to create a
diverse, robust funding profile for the organization
- Provide support and guidance to the CEO on making direct
solicitations using a moves management system
- Actively participate in the strategic planning, budget
development, and internal processes
- Provide leadership to, and collaborate with development staff,
program staff, the board of directors, and volunteers to reach
annual and long-range fundraising goalsQualifications /
RequirementsQualifications
- Experience managing and/or working with a Board in fundraising
efforts
- An understanding of the homelessness and housing sectors in the
United States and alignment with Housing Families' mission
- Ability to construct, articulate, and implement both an annual
strategic revenue plan and a multi-year revenue-raising
strategy
- Tangible experience of having expanded and diversified a donor
base.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability
to influence and engage a wide range of constituents and build
long-term relationships
- Strong organizational, leadership, and mentoring skills
- Ability to think strategically and use data to make informed
decisions
- An entrepreneurial "outside the box" thinker with a
collaborative working style with the drive to work autonomously
when neededEligibility Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years experience in fundraising with increasing
management responsibilities
- A minimum of five years direct management or supervisory
experience.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Knowledge of donor database management
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credentials highly
