ResponsibilitiesPurposeThe Associate Director provides leadership
and oversite to the Chelsea Homelessness Prevention and Legal
Services team including supervising staff, maintaining data, and
assisting with funding reports. Additionally, this person is the
outward facing liaison with the Chelsea community and community
partners.Responsibilities
- Maintains a substantial client caseload as determined by
funding sources and the Director.
- Stays current on laws and regulations applicable to the
position.
- Writes in a clear, concise manner.
- Assists paralegal in assessment and intervention with
clients.
- Helps develop and maintain contact with community resources
relevant to client needs.
- Abides by the BBO and Agency confidentiality policies.
- Provides community trainings to tenants, landlords, service
providers and volunteer attorneys as requested.
- Participates in legal housing initiatives in Chelsea.
- Participates in and making him/herself available for other
projects as determined by funding sources and the Director.
- Makes him/herself available to staff and the community for
general questions.
- Provides appropriate referrals.
- Covers HPLSP cases for other attorneys and paralegal.
- Works closely with the Paralegal, student interns, and
volunteers-providing necessary supervision in the Director's
absence.
- Works in conjunction with other providers as determined
appropriate.
- Collects and enters all required client contact and other
information into files and database.In addition to the
responsibilities above, responsibilities of the Associate Director
include:
- Provides supervision to assigned staff members.
- Designs and implements other local initiatives as determined by
the Director.
- Coordinates new intake sites and provides intakes in the
community
- Assists Director with administrative functions for Chelsea
program
- All other assigned duties as they arise.We believe that to be
successful in this position, it is crucial that the candidate can
honestly assess their strengths and determine that they include:
- An understanding of low-income populations,
- Knowledge of relevant human services programs,
- Good verbal and written communication skills,
- Ability to prepare statistical reports on various aspects of
program-related activity
- Ability to collect and distribute information to staff
members.Qualifications/RequirementsQualifications
- Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with and understanding low-income
populations.
- Detail-oriented ability to be flexible and remain
positive.
- Knowledge of relevant human services programs.
- Open to feedback with a desire and ability to learn and
grow.
- Ability to empathically de-escalate emotional reactions.
- Possess critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, and
negotiating skills.
- Ability to remain calm and responsive during crises.
- Ability to practice clear role boundaries and refer questions
and concerns outside job scope to appropriate staff.Eligibility
Requirements
- JD and admission to the Mass. Bar.
- Working knowledge of the impact of trauma and homelessness is
preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish speaking) strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of the impact of trauma and homelessness is

- Must be willing to work in Chelsea, MA, and surrounding
areas.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United
States
- Must have reliable transportationPhysical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time walking up and
down flights of stairs
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk
