By focusing R&D efforts on four therapeutic areas and other targeted investments, we push the boundaries of what is possible in order to bring life-changing therapies to patients worldwide.Join Takeda as a High Throughput Protein Production Research Scientist where you will focus on utilizing the latest early discovery technologies to develop novel biologics treatments that greatly improve patients' lives in the fields of Oncology, Gastroenterology, Neuroscience, and Rare Diseases. You will also will use your industry experience and skillset in molecular biology to contribute to the design of new vector formats for increased expression of antibodies, bispecifics, and other biologic modalities. As part of the Therapeutic Generation and Screening team, you will report to the Senior Scientist and work with the Global Biologics organization. How you will contribute:

  • Independently perform high throughput cloning, mammalian transfection, purification and optimization work in efforts to advancing early therapeutic discovery using the latest automation technologies.
  • Optimize expression conditions in plate format to increase protein production.
  • Under minimal supervision, perform high throughput production of antibodies, bispecifics and protein antigens used to discover and advance novel therapeutics.
  • Help with the design of new vector formats that will be used for high throughput protein production of bispecifics and multi-format biologics.
  • Experience with transient expression and purification of protein constructs from a variety of mammalian host-cell systems using automated liquid handlers (Tecan, Hamilton, Dynamic Devices).
  • Produce plasmid DNA using high-throughput cloning techniques.
  • Collaborate with automation engineers and independently implement solutions for protein production using a variety of automation equipment.
  • Participate on matrix project teams and interface very closely with members of Biologics Engineering and other therapeutic groups.
  • Perform cell culture work including the maintenance of cell lines.
  • Evaluate and implement new methods for high throughput protein expression and purification.
  • Perform data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Summarize and communicate results at team meetings and contribute to scientific discussions.
  • Proficient at tracking data using LIMS systems and maintaining a detailed electronic notebook.
  • Initiate investigation of new experimental approaches to a wide range of problems using scientific theory and technical literature.
  • Demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge in molecular biology, cloning, and mammalian expression.
  • Experience with protein purification and LIMS, preferably GeneData Biologics.
  • Be the recognized scientific resource on an aspect of a program. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
    • PhD degree in a Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related discipline with 2+ years experience, or
    • MS with 8+ years experience, or
    • BS with 10+ years experience
    • Minimum 3 years of industry experience required.
    • Strong background and experience in molecular biology, cloning, vector design, and mammalian cell culture.
    • Experience in protein purification principles and methods.
    • Previous hands-on experience with laboratory automation and programming, preferably with Dynamic Devices Lynx Instruments.
    • Experience with molecular biology techniques and software such as SnapGene and Geneious Prime.
    • Previous experience in high throughput platforms for biologics discovery required.
    • Track record demonstrating analytical and bench skills.
    • Demonstrates effective project engagement skills.
    • Manage multiple workstreams and samples.
